Book Publishing Policies

Ascentia Publishers is committed to publishing books and chapters in a manner that supports openness, author rights, ethical publishing, and the responsible reuse of scholarly work. These policies are designed to ensure transparency, helping authors understand how their work will be handled, the rights they retain, and how third-party content and open access licensing are managed across our book portfolio.

1. Open Access and Licensing Options

Ascentia Publishers proudly supports diverse scholarly dissemination models. We publish books and chapters under both Open Access (OA) and Non-Open Access (Traditional) arrangements, depending on the publishing agreement and the specific requirements of the project.

Where Open Access is selected, the work will be licensed under a recognized Creative Commons (CC) license. This allows readers to access, share, and reuse the material under clear, standardized terms. We encourage authors to carefully review their selected license before publication, as the choice of license directly dictates how the global community may legally share, adapt, or commercially reuse the work.

2. Copyright and Author Rights

We believe authors should retain appropriate rights to their intellectual property.

  • For Open Access publications: Authors retain copyright of their work and grant Ascentia Publishers a non-exclusive license to publish and distribute the manuscript.

  • For Traditional publications: The publication contract will explicitly detail the exact rights granted to Ascentia Publishers and the specific rights that remain with the author or their host institution.

If an author's employer, institution, or funding body mandates special copyright ownership or specific contractual wording, this must be disclosed to our editorial team prior to signing the publishing agreement.

3. Reuse and Sharing

Readers and researchers may reuse content published by Ascentia Publishers only in strict accordance with the license attached to the specific book or chapter.

  • If a work is published under a Creative Commons license, the license terms must be acknowledged, and proper attribution must be given to the author whenever the content is shared in whole or in part.

  • Depending on the specific license chosen (e.g., CC BY-NC, CC BY-ND), commercial reuse, adaptation, translation, or republication may require explicit additional permission from the rights holder.

4. Third-Party Material and Permissions

Authors are solely responsible for securing all necessary written permissions for any third-party text, figures, tables, illustrations, or images included in their manuscript, unless the use is unequivocally covered by fair use laws or existing public domain/open licenses.

  • Any third-party content included in an Open Access book or chapter must either possess permission terms compatible with the book's overall OA license, or the material must be removed or replaced prior to publication.

  • Every third-party item must feature a clear caption or credit line that explicitly identifies the original source and the relevant copyright or rights information.

5. Funder and Institutional Requirements

Many research funders and academic institutions have specific mandates regarding open access publishing. Authors must confirm that their chosen publication license and access model satisfy the requirements of their funder, employer, or institution before the manuscript is finalized and sent to production.

If a specific license (such as CC BY) is strictly required for compliance, Ascentia Publishers must be informed during the manuscript submission phase so that the publishing agreement can be aligned accordingly. This is particularly critical for collaborative research involving multiple institutions or public funding bodies.

6. License Modifications After Publication

The integrity of the scholarly record is paramount. Once a book or chapter has been officially published under a specific Creative Commons license, that license generally cannot be withdrawn, revoked, or changed retroactively.

In highly exceptional circumstances, a modification to the license may be considered, but only if required for urgent legal/funder compliance or if the publisher determines that a formal correction is ethically justified. Any request of this nature must be submitted formally to your assigned editorial contact and will be reviewed by the Ascentia Publishers editorial board.

7. Publisher Responsibilities

Ascentia Publishers will take all reasonable and necessary steps to protect the integrity of the books and chapters we publish. This includes:

  • Safeguarding author rights and aggressively addressing the unauthorized use or plagiarism of published content.

  • Ensuring that our books are highly discoverable, accessible, and correctly indexed.

  • Maintaining the long-term digital preservation of all published works.

By adhering to these principles, Ascentia Publishers supports transparency, fosters trust across the global academic community, and upholds the highest standards of responsible scholarly publishing practice.
